Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) today suspended the registration of Bangladesh Awami League. EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the decision to reporters following a meeting of the EC.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision aligns with a notification issued by the Home Ministry. The EC Senior Secretary stated, "The Ministry of Home Affairs has banned the activities of Awami League and all its front, associate, and brotherly organizations. In continuation of this, the Election Commission has decided to suspend the registration of Awami League."
A gazette notification was issued today regarding the ban on all activities of the party. The meeting of the commission took place around 5:30 pm, presided over by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin.
