However, the modern version of Mother's Day as we know it today originated in the United States, thanks to the efforts of Anna Jarvis and her daughter, Anna Maria Reeves Jarvis. Their campaign led to the first official celebration in 1908, and in 1914, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday of May as Mother's Day.
