Dhaka: The biennial election of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) is underway today to elect its executive committee for the 2025-2027 term. The voting process commenced at 9 am and is scheduled to continue until 5 pm without any interruptions.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this year’s polling is being conducted at two key centers located in Dhaka and Narayanganj. Despite a significant number of voters residing in Chattogram, no voting center has been established there. Voters from Chattogram have the option to cast their votes at either the Dhaka or Narayanganj centers, based on their convenience.
A total of 38 candidates are vying for positions in this year’s election, with 35 to be elected as directors for a two-year term. From these elected directors, one president and seven vice presidents will be nominated for the upcoming tenure. Across the country, there are 572 eligible voters, consisting of 272 from Narayanganj, 224 from Dhaka, and 76 from Chattogram.
The voting process is being conducted manually. Notably, only one panel has fielded candidates for all 35 directorial positions, while three other individuals are participating as independent candidates. In a recent development, the election commission decided to relocate the Dhaka polling center to the BKMEA’s Dhaka office at Planners Tower from the initially planned Shaheed Abu Sayed International Convention Centre.
