Dhaka: Local Government Division (LGD) Secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi today emphasized that maintaining a clean city is achievable if every citizen becomes aware and proactive. He conveyed this message during the 4th special cleanliness drive in the Lalbagh area under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the cleanliness initiative was supported by around 500 anti-mosquito and cleaning workers, alongside local leaders and residents, with the presence of DSCC Administrator Md Shahjahan Miah. Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi spoke to the media, expressing the goal of presenting a beautiful Dhaka to its residents by eliminating citizen harassment and combating the dengue threat.
He highlighted that DSCC is regularly conducting special cleanliness drives in tandem with anti-mosquito efforts to raise public awareness. Additionally, Jahedi mentioned plans to transform Lalbagh's historical structures into tourist attractions and the installation of a sewerage treatment plant in the capital.
DSCC Administrator Md Shahjahan Mia pointed out that Old Dhaka, with its rich history and culture, is the city's birthplace. He emphasized the importance of cleanliness drives to preserve Dhaka's tradition and beauty, aiming to establish it as a tourist destination. Shahjahan also noted ongoing efforts to control the dengue menace with citizen participation and shared plans for a tree plantation program during the rainy season to enhance Dhaka's greenness.
The event featured a public awareness rally attended by participants and guests. Among those present were DSCC CEO Dr. Zillur Rahman, departmental chiefs, and local leaders.
