Dhaka: Chief Adviser (CA) Prof. Muhammad Yunus has extended his heartfelt greetings to all the Buddhists of the country on the occasion of holy Buddha Purnima, the biggest festival of the Buddhist community. In a message on the eve of the festival, he emphasized Bangladesh's rich tradition of communal harmony, where people of all faiths, regardless of race, religion, and caste, have coexisted peacefully for thousands of years. He described the country as a safe haven for all people, irrespective of their religious or ethnic backgrounds.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Yunus highlighted the teachings of Gautam Buddha, who enlightened humanity by transcending greed and lust, and who preached the message of non-violence to establish peace and welfare among people. Yunus expressed that his interim government is committed to ensuring the development and equal rights of all citizens, irrespective of race, religion, caste, or group.
He observed that following the ideals of Buddha can significantly contribute to building a new Bangladesh free from violence, hatred, and conflict. He acknowledged the active participation of Buddhists, alongside followers of other religions, in the socio-economic progress of Bangladesh over the years.
Yunus expressed hope that the Buddhist community in the country will effectively contribute to transforming Bangladesh into a non-discriminatory nation by embracing the ideals of Gautam Buddha. He conveyed his best wishes for the success of all the programs undertaken to celebrate Buddha Purnima.
