Dhaka: Haji Yakub, the owner of a factory, today compensated his employee, Naim Hasan Nahid, with Taka 10 lakh after a directive from the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. Naim, who tragically lost his hand while working, received the payment in court as part of a compensation package.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, upheld a previous High Court verdict and scheduled the next hearing for May 13. The High Court had initially ruled on January 12 that Naim should receive Taka 15 lakh and an additional Taka 7000 per month for educational expenses up to the SSC level.
In compliance with the Appellate Division's directive, factory owner Yakub Ali provided a pay order of Taka 10 lakh to 13-year-old Naim in court today. Barrister Omar Faruque represented Naim's case, while Barrister Ruhul Kajol, representing the factory owner, delivered the pay order to Naim.
Barrister Omar Faruque expressed optimism that Naim would receive the remaining Taka 20 lakh at the next hearing on May 13. The Appellate Division had summoned Yakub Ali on February 10 after he failed to fulfill the High Court's order to compensate Naim with Taka 30 lakh. The decision followed a court defamation petition heard by the appellate division bench, headed by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam.
Naim, employed at Nur Engineering Workshop in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj district, suffered the loss of his hand on September 28, 2020, while performing his duties at the factory.
