Special Metropolitan Magistrate Resolves 477 Cases through Summary Trials in Dhaka

Dhaka: A total of 477 cases were resolved in April by the Special Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), utilizing summary trial courts to expedite the process.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Commissioner and spokesperson of DMP, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, revealed that out of 943 individuals arrested, 105 were sentenced to various jail terms in the summary trials conducted for these 477 cases. The Special Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court is empowered to handle non-serious crimes and offenses that warrant light punishment under the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.



Additional District Judge and Law Officer Mohammad Ataul Haque reported that in April, the Motijheel Division of DMP apprehended 81 individuals and initiated 36 cases against them in the Special Metropolitan Magistrate Summary Trial Court. The court imposed fines totaling Tk 39,900, and 33 individuals were handed jail sentences.



In parallel, the Wari Division of DMP arrested 30 individuals and filed 22 cases in the summary trial court, resulting in fines of Tk 19,150, with three individuals receiving varied jail terms. The Tejgaon division reported the arrest of 98 individuals and the filing of 63 cases, leading to fines of Tk 26,500.



The Gulshan division saw 84 arrests and 57 cases filed, with fines amounting to Tk 73,150. Meanwhile, in the Lalbagh division, 29 arrests and 24 cases were recorded, with fines totaling Tk 48,700 and 11 individuals sentenced to jail terms.



Ataul Haque further noted that the Mirpur division arrested 488 individuals, filing 177 cases and collecting fines amounting to Tk 2,45,700, with 23 sentenced to various jail terms. The Uttara Division reported 112 arrests and 77 cases, resulting in fines of Tk 94,700 and 35 jail sentences.



Additionally, the Ramna Division arrested 21 individuals and filed an equivalent number of cases in the Special Metropolitan Magistrate’s Summary Trial Court, leading to fines of Tk 18,500.
