Dhaka: The Health Sector Reform Commission today submitted its report to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. The members of the commission, led by its chief Professor AK Azad Khan, handed over the report to Prof Yunus at about 11 am at the State Guest House Jamuna here, Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder told BSS.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the government formed a 12-member Health Sector Reform Commission in November 2024. The commission is headed by Prof AK Azad Khan, who is the president of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh. Other notable members include Prof Md Muhammad Zakir Hossain from the Public Health and Health Informatics Department at BSMMU, and Prof Dr Liaquat Ali, chairman of the Pothikrit Foundation.
Further members of the commission include notable figures such as Prof Dr Sayera Akther, a gynecologist, and Prof Dr Naila Zaman Khan, a neurologist at the Department of Pediatric Neuroscience. The commission also includes MM Reza, a former secretary, and Prof Dr Muzaherul Huq, a former regional adviser at the WHO for the South-East Asia Region.
Additionally, the commission comprises Dr Azharul Islam from ICDDR,B; Prof Dr Syed Md Akram Hossain from Square Cancer Centre at Square Hospital; Prof Dr Syed Atiqul Haque, who is the chief consultant at Green Life Centre for Rheumatic Care and Research; Dr Ahmed Ahsanur Rahman, a scientist at ICDDR,B; and Omair Afif, a student of Dhaka Medical College.
