Stocks Maintain Gaining Streak

Dhaka: Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) today also witnessed an upward trend like earlier as investors continued their buying spree on large-cap issues amid optimism. DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, gained 8.4 points to settle at 4,965 points, as against 4,956 points in the previous trading session.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, market analysts observed that investors remained active on both sides of the trading fence today as sellers also tried to demonstrate their strength since market sentiment has yet to rebound in the absence of any strong positive catalyst; however, bargain hunters ultimately managed to extend their possession of the market's momentum. Trading activities also increased by 46.2 percent to a nearly 2.5-month high of Taka 5.8 billion compared to Taka 4.0 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Bank issues exerted the highest turnover at 39.1%, followed by Food at 9.0% and Pharma at 8.1%. Sectors showed mixed performance, out of which Mutual Fund (2.8%), Life Insurance (2.6%), and Financial Institutions (1.5%) exerted the most gains on the bourse today, while Tannery (-2.8%), Ceramic (-2.2%), and Engineering (-0.7%) exhibited most corrections. Out of the 397 issues traded, 172 advanced, 166 declined, and 59 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on a positive note. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) increased by 44.0 points and 59.0 points, respectively.
