Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator has asked the Estate Department to form a committee to investigate in detail the ‘procedural errors and corruption’ in leasing out Gabtoli Hat, a DNCC release sent to the mass media said. The probe comes amid growing concerns over the transparency of the tender and leasing operations related to Gabtoli Hat.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DNCC administrator issued the order following reports in several media outlets alleging that the cancellation of the tender and leasing process of Gabtoli Hat was not executed according to due process. These reports have raised questions about the integrity of the leasing procedures and prompted the DNCC to take corrective action.

Previously, on April 30, a team from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), led by ACC Assistant Director Rubel Hasan, conducted an operation at the DNCC in relation to these allegations. During the operation, the DNCC Administrator instructed the officials to extend maximum assistance to the ACC team, underscoring the importance of cooperation in addressing the concerns raised.

The formation of the committee is seen as a significant step by the DNCC to ensure accountability and transparency in its operations. The investigation aims to uncover any discrepancies and hold responsible parties accountable, thereby restoring public confidence in the DNCC’s processes.
