Residency of Four Students Revoked in Connection to Abu Sayeed Murder

Rangpur: The Hall Provost Body has cancelled the residency of four students from Shaheed Mukhtar Elahi Hall of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), who are accused in the murder of Shaheed Abu Sayeed during the July uprising.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision to revoke their residency was formalized through a notification signed by the university’s Hall Provost Body on Monday. The students affected are from the 2020-21 academic sessions, namely Manik Chandra Sen and SM Labu Islam from the Department of Political Science, Md. Mehedi Hasan Miraj from the Department of History and Archaeology, and Sejan Ahmed alias Arif from the Department of Management Studies.

The notification cited the decisions made during the university’s 108th Syndicate meeting and the Disciplinary Board session held on March 20. The Hall Provost Body meeting also played a pivotal role in the decision to cancel the residency of these four students due to their alleged involvement in the murder of Abu Sayeed.

heed Mukhtar Elahi Hall Provost, Professor Dr. Md Kamruzzaman, stated that the expulsion was carried out in line with the resolutions of the Disciplinary Board, Syndicate, and Hall Provost Body. He also mentioned that under the policy of Shaheed Mukhtar Elahi Hall-2015, any student absent for more than three months would automatically have their seat cancelled.
