Narayanganj: Bangladesh Neonatal Hospital today installed the country’s first ‘Nitric Oxide Generator’ for controlling the fatal disease ‘Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN) ‘ of newborns. To this end, the hospital arranged an inauguration function on its premises at signboard area under Narayanganj district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, President (Elect) of Bangladesh Neonatal Forum, Professor Dr. Begum Sharifunnahar, attended the function as the chief guest while General Secretary of Bangladesh Neonatal Forum and Director of Maternal and Child Health Institute, Matuail, Dr. Md Mojibur Rahman Mujib, presided over it. Sharifunnahar highlighted that this initiative by Bangladesh Neonatal Hospital is a significant step towards achieving sustainable development goals (SDG) by greatly contributing to preventing the death of newborns.
Sharifunnahar expressed gratitude to the authorities for taking this landmark step of installing the ‘Nitric Oxide Generator’. Meanwhile, Mojibur Rahman emphasized the effectiveness of the new technology, stating that conventional treatment can save less than 50 percent of newborns with primary pulmonary hypertension, but with the nitric oxide generator, more than 98 percent of patients can potentially be saved.
