Fugitive Convict Arrested in Dhaka After Evading 10-Year Sentence

Dhaka: A joint team from RAB-13 and RAB-1 successfully apprehended a fugitive who had been sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with an Arms Act case. The arrest took place in the Kafrul police station area of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Sunday evening.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the individual arrested was identified as Md. Asaduzzaman Asad, aged 35, son of Md. Atiur Rahman from Noyapara village under Pirgachha police station in Rangpur district. The arrest was announced in a press release this afternoon.



Asaduzzaman Asad had been involved in operating an illegal arms business in Bhatara police station area under DMP and in his own locality in Rangpur district for an extended period. A case was registered against him at Bhatara Police Station of DMP under Section 19 (a) of the Arms Act-1878.



In a trial conducted in his absence, Asad was sentenced to a decade in prison, leading to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest. The authorities have now handed over the arrested individual to the concerned police station to proceed with further legal actions, the release stated.
