Lightning Strikes Claim Lives of 4 in Cumilla, Including 2 Students

Cumilla: Four individuals, including two school students, lost their lives due to lightning strikes in separate incidents in Barura and Muradnagar upazilas of Cumilla.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the tragic incidents occurred on Monday afternoon. The officer-in-charge of the concerned police station confirmed the events. In Barura upazila, two school students were killed and another was injured when lightning struck them as they were flying kites in Payalgachha village of Khoshbas union. The deceased were identified as Fahad Hossain and Saymon Hossain, both 13-year-old students of class six at Baraharipur High School. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barura Police Station, Nazmul Hasan, stated that the children were critically injured by the lightning and were taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared Fahad and Saymon dead.



In a separate incident, two farmers died after being struck by lightning while harvesting paddy in a field at Korbanpur Purbapara under Bangra Bazar Police Station in Muradnagar upazila. Mahfuzur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangra Bazar Police Station, reported that the deceased farmers were Nikhil Debnath, 64, from Korbanpur village, and Jewel Bhuiyan, 30, from Deora village. Both men were engaged in their agricultural activities when the lightning struck them.
