ICSB Hosts Webinar on Chartered Secretary Opportunities and Challenges

Dhaka: The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) organized a webinar titled “Chartered Secretary Profession-Opportunities and Challenges,” focusing on the crucial role of chartered secretaries in the modern corporate landscape. M Nurul Alam, acting president of ICSB, chaired the webinar, which took place on an online platform.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mohammad Iqbal Chowdhury, director and Chief Executive Officer of Lafargeholcim Bangladesh PLC, delivered the keynote presentation. The session featured discussions led by Mohammad Sanaullah, former ICSB president and current council member, and M. Naseemul Hye, Council Member of ICSB and Deputy Managing Director of Meghna Cement Mills PLC.

M Nurul Alam, in his welcome speech, highlighted the increasing importance of chartered secretaries, citing opportunities in governance, strategy, and international careers, while also acknowledging challenges such as regulatory changes and technological disruptions. He called for continuo
us learning and collaboration to enhance the profession’s future impact.

Keynote speaker Iqbal Chowdhury conducted a live survey to gauge participants’ perceptions of emerging trends and challenges. His presentation emphasized the evolving role of chartered secretaries, stressing the need for adaptability, continuous learning, and leadership across various domains including corporate governance and finance.

Mohammad Sanaullah highlighted the potential for chartered secretaries to assume leadership roles within organizations and urged exploration of opportunities beyond borders. He stressed the importance of staying updated with information technology and advancements in artificial intelligence.

M. Naseemul Hye pointed out the transition of chartered secretaries from compliance officers to governance leaders and urged professionals to enhance their IT skills, especially in artificial intelligence, to address emerging cyber threats. He also emphasized transparency, integrity, and avoiding conflicts of intere
st to maintain stakeholder trust.

The webinar concluded with an interactive Q and A session, followed by a vote of thanks from Md. Sarfaraz Hossain, member secretary of the seminar and conference sub-committee.
