Dhaka: A signal light post has been installed on an experimental basis for pedestrians to enable them to cross a road safely in the Mirpur area under the joint initiative of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), a DMP statement said today. The pilot project aims to facilitate pedestrian movement from 8 am to 12 noon on weekdays, allowing safe use of a zebra crossing in front of the National Heart Foundation in Mirpur.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the signal light system was launched as part of the Dhaka Road Traffic Safety Project. DMP’s additional commissioner (traffic), M Sarwar, mentioned that the signal light would help reduce traffic congestion and ensure safe crossing for pedestrians. Sarwar highlighted the collaboration between JICA and DMP’s Traffic Division in their efforts to enhance the safety of Dhaka’s traffic system. He inspected the new system alongside deputy police commissioner Gautam Kumar Biswas and JICA officials.
