Kawnia: In a drive conducted by the Upazila Fisheries Office, 18 banned fishing nets were seized and burned in public in Kawnia upazila here today. Kawnia Upazila Fisheries Officer Farzana Akhter led the operation at Panjarbhanga and Nijpara areas on the banks of Teesta River in the district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation targeted illegal fishing activities that threaten the local aquatic ecosystem. The seized nets were destroyed as part of the ongoing efforts to curb illegal fishing practices in the region. The Upazila Fisheries Office aims to protect fish populations and promote sustainable fishing methods among local communities.
