Chattogram: Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has paid Tk 100 crore to the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) as arrears tax today. CPA Chairman Rear Admiral SM Muniruzzaman handed over a cheque for Tk 100 crore to CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain at its tiger pass office.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the longstanding conflict between CCC and CPA over municipal taxes has been resolved. The dispute originated after municipal tax worth Tk 160 crore annually was set in 2017, although CPA had only been paying Tk 45 crore. This resulted in CCC missing out on Tk 115 crore in revenue each year, leading to tensions between the two entities.
Upon assuming office, Mayor Shahadat Hossain prioritized resolving the tax arrears conflict with CPA. He initiated steps to ensure the full amount of municipal tax was collected from CPA, eventually involving the Ministry of Shipping to address the issue.
The event was attended by several key officials, including Port Member (Harbor and Marine) Ahmed Amin Abdullah, Secretary Md. Omar Faruk, Chief Revenue Officer Sarwar Kamal, and Chief Accounting Officer Humayun Kabir Chowdhury.
