DU VC Stresses Importance of Collective Efforts for Environmental Health

Dhaka: Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan today called upon all to come forward to maintain a healthy environment through collective efforts. ‘Keeping the environment healthy is crucial for human civilization. It is a continuous process, which must be done collectively and time to time. We must come forward for fulfilling the works related to environment protection,’ he said.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Vice-Chancellor was speaking as the chief guest at the closing session of a workshop titled ‘Green and Clean Campus for Development’ at the University’s Nobab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus. The workshop was jointly organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, UNIDO, the Norwegian embassy in Dhaka, and Pran RFL group.



Expressing his determination to continue environmental greenery programs, Professor Khan stated, ‘This workshop will play an effective role in the struggle for human existence. Dhaka University will always be with such works. Environmental clubs are working on the campus to ensure the continuation of these works.’



DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed presided over both the opening and closing sessions of the workshop, while additional secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr. Fahmida Khanam spoke as the chief guest at the opening session.



In the second session of the workshop, about 400 students from Dhaka University, Dhaka Medical College (DMC), and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) were imparted training on environment. Later, they were provided certificates.
