Dhaka: Reverend Dr Jerry Pillay, General Secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), announced that the WCC is in alignment with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus's vision for a 'Three Zero World', which focuses on zero net wealth concentration, zero unemployment, and zero carbon emissions. Reverend Pillay made this statement during a meeting with the Chief Adviser at the State Guest House Jamuna.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Reverend Pillay, who is based in Geneva, expressed the WCC's full support for Bangladesh's Interim Government and its efforts toward peace, justice, and communal harmony. Reverend Pillay highlighted the shared values between the WCC and Bangladesh's leadership, emphasizing the importance of unity and a just society.
During the meeting, Prof Yunus expressed gratitude for the WCC's support and affirmed Bangladesh's commitment to the vision. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but emphasized the importance of continued support from international partners like the WCC.
The World Council of Churches, representing over 500 million Christians worldwide, has been a proponent of interfaith harmony and climate adaptation efforts. Reverend Pillay commended Bangladesh's leadership in climate efforts, noting the establishment of a climate centre in Gazipur by the Bangladesh chapter of the WCC.
The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hasan, Dinesh Suna, Programme Executive of the WCC, Bishop Philip Adhikary, President of the Federation of Protestant Churches of Bangladesh, Wing Commander Christopher Adhikary (Retd), President of the National Council of Churches in Bangladesh, and Reverend Dipok Das, General Secretary of the NCCB.
