Dhaka: Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman today returned home after an official visit to Russia and Croatia.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during his visit, General Waker-Uz-Zaman met with several high-ranking military and civil officials, including the Russian Army Chief, Deputy Defense Minister, and the Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces. The meetings were pivotal in discussing various strategic issues concerning the interests of the involved nations.
On April 7, 2025, the Army Chief paid a courtesy call on Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister General A Fomin. The discussions centered around enhancing bilateral ties, providing training assistance, boosting mutual confidence, and facilitating the export of skilled manpower to Russia. They also deliberated on mutual cooperation concerning regional security and the prospect of joint training initiatives.
A subsequent meeting on April 8, 2025, saw the Bangladesh Army Chief engage with Russian Army Chief General Oleg Salyukov. Key topics included future plans for Defense Cooperation Agreements and the advancement of military training institutions through training exchanges and joint training programs.
In another significant engagement, the Army Chief met with the Director General of the Russian State Energy Organization ‘Rosatom’ to complete the physical security system of the Rupur Nuclear Power Plant. He also held discussions with experts and high officials from Rostec and Rosoboron Export to expedite military exchanges between the two countries.
The visit to Croatia on April 10, 2025, involved a courtesy call on Croatian Armed Forces Chief Lieutenant General Tihomir Kundid. Discussions highlighted the enhancement of the defense industry, the potential for establishing a defense industry, joint military exercises, and plans for boosting mutual cooperation in the future.
