Dhaka: Students, teachers, officials, and employees of Jagannath University today observed an agitation programme titled 'March for Palestine', calling on global leaders to stop the killings and destruction in Palestine by Israel. Representatives from the Jagannath University Teachers' Association submitted memorandums to the US Embassy, the Saudi Arabian Embassy, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, demanding initiatives to end such killings and destruction.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event began with a procession starting from the university's main gate, moving toward the embassies, where representatives from the university submitted the memorandums on behalf of the participants. Throughout the procession, participants chanted slogans expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and called for an immediate halt to the violence in Palestine.
Following the procession, a brief rally was held on campus. Professor Rais Uddin, General Secretary of the Jagannath University Teachers' Association, announced a three-point declaration. The declaration included boycotting Israeli products, praying for the Palestinian people, and planning to lay siege to the UN office in Bangladesh if no resolution to the crisis emerges after the submission of the memorandums.
During the rally, Dr. Bilal Hossain, Joint Convener of the Teachers' Association, emphasized the urgency of their demands, stating, "We have submitted memorandums to the US and Saudi embassies, demanding immediate action to stop the Israeli genocide in Palestine and to establish an independent Palestinian state." Leaders of various university associations also addressed the rally, reinforcing the call for swift international intervention.
