Eighth Grade Student Drowns in River Teesta While Bathing with Friends

Gangachara: An eighth grade school student drowned in the River Teesta while bathing with his friends at 3 pm today at Mohipur Road Bridge point in Gangachara upazila of the district. The deceased was identified as Mahim, 14, son of Lutfar Rahman of Maddhyapara village under Sadar union of the same upazila.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Gangachara Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Al Emran provided details about the incident. Mahim was a student at Chengmari High School in the nearby area. Quoting locals, the OC stated that Mahim, without informing his parents, went to play football with friends on the Teesta riverbank in the afternoon. After the game, many of them decided to take a bath in the river.

Tragically, after everyone returned from bathing, Mahim’s friends realized he was missing. Mahim did not know how to swim. With the help of locals, a search was conducted, and Mahim was found in an unconscious state in the water. He was immediately taken to the Gangachara Upazila Heal
th Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

The OC mentioned that no complaint has been received from the family regarding the incident. However, an unnatural death case has been registered at the police station.
