Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has stressed the need for collective efforts from all levels, local and global, to improve maternal and child health. In a message marking World Health Day, Prof Yunus stated that more action programs are necessary to address the enduring challenge of reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Yunus emphasized that concerted efforts are needed at both national and international levels to overcome this challenge. World Health Day will be observed in Bangladesh alongside other countries, with the theme “Healthy beginning, hopeful futures.” The message for the day in Bangladesh, “Safe birth for bright future,” was described by the Chief Adviser as both appropriate and timely.

He highlighted that the Health and Family Welfare Ministry is working tirelessly to improve maternal and child health. ‘Various action programmes are being implemented by both the government and private sector,’ he noted, adding that development partners are collaborating closely with the government to advance the cause.

To sustain the success of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), world leaders have set a goal to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, aimed at ensuring health services for all. Prof Yunus noted that the World Health Organization has initiated a special program this year to protect maternal and child health.

In this context, the Chief Adviser mentioned that post-uprising Bangladesh has achieved significant successes in the health sector. He reiterated his government’s firm commitment to prioritizing health services for all women and children.

Prof Yunus concluded by expressing his best wishes for the success of the World Health Day programs, affirming the interim government’s dedication to building Bangladesh as a safe and respected nation in the world.
