BIMSTEC Secretary General Calls on Touhid in Bangkok

Bangkok: BIMSTEC Secretary General Indra Mani Pandey called on Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain today in Bangkok. During the meeting, they discussed deepening regional cooperation, Bangladesh’s vital contribution, and Dhaka’s role as the incoming chair in BIMSTEC’s success, said BIMSTEC Secretariat here.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, earlier in the morning, Hossain led the Bangladesh delegation in the 20th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting. Foreign ministers from all seven BIMSTEC member countries participated in the ministerial meeting, which was held one day ahead of the Sixth BIMSTEC summit.



At the meeting, Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser stressed tangible and result-oriented cooperation among BIMSTEC member states, especially through the effective implementation of the BIMSTEC Free Trade Area (FTA) to enhance intra-regional trade. He highlighted Bangladesh’s commitment to ensuring collective peace, progress, and prosperity through a shared BIMSTEC vision.



Before the meeting, the Foreign Ministers signed the Agreement on BIMSTEC Maritime Transport Cooperation, marking a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity. Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus is now in Bangkok to attend the Sixth BIMSTEC Summit of Heads of State/Governments in Bangkok on Friday.
