Dhaka: Train service on the Dhaka-Mymensingh rail section resumed after being suspended for two hours due to a fire incident involving the Mahua Express commuter train.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fire broke out as the train was approaching Saat Khamair Railway Station in Gazipur from Dhaka at around 10:30. The station, being closed at the time, had no staff present to respond immediately to the incident, explained Sreepur Fire Service officer Rezaul Karim.
Receiving information from Dhaka, two units of the Sreepur Fire Service arrived at the scene and managed to bring the fire under control after an hour and a half of efforts. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and no casualties have been reported, confirmed Md Afzal Hossain, Director General of Bangladesh Railway.
A probe committee, including Divisional Electrical Engineer Farhana Sultana, Divisional Mechanical Engineer, and Divisional Traffic Controller, has been formed to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the damage, stated the Director General.
