Natore: The government has announced a plan to recruit approximately 5,000 physicians to enhance healthcare services nationwide. This announcement was made by the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services, Professor Dr. Md Abu Jafor, during a visit to the 250-bed Natore district hospital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Jafor emphasized the need for increased manpower in the health department, citing the inadequacy of current treatment facilities relative to the population size. He stated that the government is committed to ensuring healthcare services for the populace despite existing limitations, hence the plan to recruit additional physicians for public hospitals.
Dr. Jafor also shared that a letter has been sent to the Bangladesh Public Service Commission to recruit 2,000 physicians through the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS). Additionally, measures are being taken to recruit another 3,000 physicians via a Special BCS.
In his remarks, Dr. Jafor mentioned that the health directorate has issued health cards to those injured during the July mass uprising to secure better treatment. He noted that 40 severely injured individuals received treatment abroad, and highlighted that 830 people were killed and 16,000 injured during the uprising.
The visit also included Dr. Habibur Rahman, Director of the Rajshahi division, Dr. Aminul Islam, President of the Medical Association of Bangladesh in the Natore Unit, and Dr. Kamal Uddin Bhuiyan, Natore Upazila Health Medical Officer. Prior to the announcement, Dr. Jafor toured Natore Sadar hospital to assess patient treatment facilities.
