Dhaka: The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, a significant religious celebration for Muslims, was marked with dignity and joy across the capital and the entire country. Millions of Muslim devotees celebrated by offering Eid prayers in hopes of gaining the pleasure of Almighty Allah.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the main Eid congregation took place at the National Eidgah Maidan in Dhaka at 8:30 am, attended by Chief Adviser to the Interim Government Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, diplomats, and dignitaries. The gathering included people from various sectors, such as Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser M Fouzul Kabir Khan, Religious Adviser Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain, and Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuz Alam. After the prayers, a special munajat sought blessings for the nation’s peace and prosperity, and the welfare of the Muslim Ummah.
The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) organized the main congregation, with special arrangements for women and foreign diplomats. Facilities such as ablution spo
ts, drinking water, and mobile toilets were provided for the attendees, and security measures were heightened to ensure a smooth event. Meanwhile, the second largest congregation in Dhaka was held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, with five additional congregations taking place.
A traditional procession, organized by the Dhaka North City Corporation, added to the festive atmosphere. This colorful parade featured royal horses, horse-drawn carriages, a marching band, and artistic displays, drawing inspiration from a 400-year-old tradition. It started at the old Trade Fair grounds and concluded at the South Plaza of the Parliament Building. A puppet show depicting scenes from the Sultan-e-Mughal period entertained participants, who were also treated to semai and sweets.
Celebrations extended to educational institutions, with a procession on the Dhaka University campus led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan. Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed and other university members participa
ted, highlighting the communal spirit of the occasion.
In Kishoreganj, the largest congregation took place at the historic Sholakia Eidgah Maidan, where approximately six lakh devotees gathered. Led by Mufti Abul Khair Mohammad Saifullah, the prayers were followed by a special doa for peace and prosperity in Bangladesh and the Muslim world, particularly Palestine.
Sylhet’s main congregation was held at the 700-year-old Shahi Eidgah ground, led by Maulana Mushtaq Ahmed Khan. The event emphasized unity among attendees, who exchanged greetings afterwards. Similarly, in Dinajpur, a vast congregation occurred at the Gor-e-Shahid Boro Maidan, led by Hafez Maulana Mahfuzur Rahman.
Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and other leaders conveyed Eid greetings to the nation. Many city residents traveled to their hometowns to celebrate with family, while the capital’s streets were adorned with national and Eid Mubarak flags. Government and private buildings were decorated with lights, and special meals were ser
ved in prisons, hospitals, and welfare centers.
Media outlets such as Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, and private channels aired special programs for the occasion. Nationwide, district and city administrations coordinated with national efforts to ensure the celebration’s success, including arrangements by Bangladeshi embassies abroad.
