Dhaka: The main jamaat of Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at 8.30am tomorrow at the National Eidgah in the capital. Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has completed all preparations to facilitate the devotees to offer their Eid prayers in a peaceful and smooth manner.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Administrator of DSCC, M Shahjahan Mia, announced at a press conference that the Eidgah has been prepared to accommodate about 35,000 devotees simultaneously. Attendees will include members of the Advisory Council, diplomats, and dignitaries.
Shahjahan urged city dwellers to participate in the main Eid jamaat timely and assured them that all necessary arrangements for a comfortable and safe prayer experience have been made, similar to previous years. The Met office forecasts no rain on Eid day, but preparations are in place for alternative arrangements in case of adverse weather conditions.
If the weather turns unfavorable, the congregation will shift to Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 9 am, as stated by the DSCC official. Special security measures will be in place, with law enforcement agencies, including police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officers, on duty in both uniform and plainclothes.
Additional measures include provisions for devotees' ablution and sanitation needs, with a medical team and ambulance service on standby for primary treatment and emergency healthcare. Drinking water arrangements and comfortable carpeting will be provided. Devotees are advised not to bring their prayer mats and water.
Devotees will access the Eidgah through two entry gates, with five exit gates available for departure after prayers. A separate gate will be designated for the entry and exit of women devotees.
