Court Freezes 31 Bank Accounts of Former Lawmaker Mirza Azam and His Wife

Dhaka: A court here today ordered to freeze 31 bank accounts of former Jamalpur-3 lawmaker Mirza Azam and his wife Dewan Aleya over graft allegations. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing two separate pleas of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accounts include 18 in the name of Mirza Azam and 13 in his wife’s name. The court’s decision follows allegations of corruption against the couple. In addition to freezing the bank accounts, the court has ordered the attachment of 19 bigha plots owned by the couple.



The Anti-Corruption Commission had submitted separate pleas requesting the court to take action against Mirza Azam and Dewan Aleya. The court’s decision to freeze the accounts and attach the plots marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the couple’s financial activities.
