Shipping Ministry to Open Chittagong-Sandwip Ferry Route Tomorrow

Chattogram: A long-expected ferry service is set to link the southeastern Chattogram with the offshore island of Sandwip starting tomorrow, with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad expected to open the service under the auspices of the shipping ministry.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the service will connect Sitakunda on the outskirts of the port city with Sandwip Island, featuring four stops: three in Sandwip’s Banshbaria, central Sitakunda, and Guptochhara. The distance between the two upazilas is approximately 35 kilometers.



The shipping ministry statement indicated that the chief adviser would inaugurate the service by joining the ceremony through a virtual platform from Dhaka. Shipping adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain is expected to formally inaugurate the ferry service.



The ceremony will also be attended by adviser for energy and road transport ministries Muhammad Fawjul Kabir Khan, adviser for environment and water resources ministries Syewda Rizwana Hassan, local government and sports adviser Asif Mahmud, and liberation war affairs adviser Faruq-e-Azam, among others.
