Dhaka: Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan (BKSP) emerged victorious in the BRAC Bank Development Cup Women’s Hockey, defeating Kishoreganj district with a decisive 8-0 scoreline in the final match at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the match was a showcase of superior skill and teamwork by BKSP. Skipper Arpita Paul initiated the scoring spree in the eighth minute, followed swiftly by Irin Akter Riya, who extended the lead in the 11th minute. The momentum continued with Jakia Afroz Lima netting the third goal in the 14th minute, and Arpita adding another in the 18th minute. Tonni Khatun contributed the fifth goal in the 22nd minute, while Irin further strengthened the lead with goals in the 42nd and 50th minutes. Arpita completed the tally with her third goal in the 56th minute, sealing the championship for BKSP.
Earlier in the tournament, Jashore district secured the third position by defeating Rajshahi district 4-0 in the playoff match. The tournament’s conclusion was marked by a prize distribution ceremony attended by Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) President and Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, alongside BRAC Bank Chairman Meheriar M. Hasan and other BHF officials.
Fardia Akter Ratri of Kishoreganj district was recognized as the best player of the competition, while Arpita Paul emerged as the top scorer with an impressive 30 goals throughout the tournament. The semifinals saw Kishoreganj district edge past Jashore district 2-1, and BKSP overpower Rajshahi district 12-0, setting the stage for their dominant final performance.
The tournament featured 11 teams, including 10 district teams and BKSP, divided into two groups. The competition was organized by the Bangladesh Hockey Federation, highlighting the growing prominence of women’s hockey in the nation.
