Govt Expects Media to Play Neutral, Responsible Role: Mahfuj Alam

Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Mahfuj Alam emphasized the government’s expectation for a neutral and responsible role from the mass media. He expressed these views during an iftar mahfil and a view-exchange meeting organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at Tathya Bhaban on Circuit House Road.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahfuj Alam highlighted the importance of the media in countering rumors and propaganda, urging them to play an effective role in this regard. He also welcomed media criticism, noting that constructive criticism assists the government in making informed decisions.



Furthermore, Mahfuj Alam underscored the importance of the media in publicizing the government’s positive actions along with offering constructive criticism. He shared that the government has established the Media Reform Commission to ensure discipline within the media sector. The government plans to undertake media reforms based on the commission’s recommendations.



Mahfuj Alam called for the cooperation of media owners, journalists, and all other stakeholders to support the media reform process. The event was attended by Mahbuba Farzana, the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, as well as owners and editors of both print and electronic media, and officials from the Chief Adviser’s press wing.
