Dhaka: Australian Home Minister Tony Burke today informed Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury via phone that Australia will now process visas for Bangladeshi citizens from its High Commission in Dhaka. This marks a change from the previous practice where visas were processed in New Delhi.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the home adviser communicated to the council of advisers that this decision will take effect immediately, as stated in a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing. This development comes after Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus requested the change during his visit to Bangladesh in October last year. The move is expected to streamline the visa process for Bangladeshi nationals seeking to travel to Australia.
