Dhaka: Nagorik Oikkya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna here today emphasized the necessity of both reforms and elections being carried out concurrently to ensure an acceptable and quality electoral process, which is vital for sustainable democracy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Manna stated that meaningful reforms are essential for a credible election that ensures sustainable democracy, thereby safeguarding the people's rights in the future. His remarks were made while speaking as the chief guest at a pre-Iftar mahfil discussion titled 'Not small, not big - We want necessary reforms,' organized by the city unit of Nagorik Oikkya at the Senior's Club auditorium.
Manna highlighted that all anti-fascist political parties have expressed support for the interim government led by Prof. Muhammad Yunus. This support is aimed at creating a conducive environment through necessary reforms that would restore the rule of law and sustainable democracy.
He further praised the interim government's performance, particularly for maintaining a stable price situation during Ramadan, despite facing several challenges. Manna advocated for a timely credible election through meaningful reforms.
The discussion was attended by Nagorik Oikkya General Secretary Shahidullah Kaiser, Freedom Fighter Ekramul Karim, journalist Zahidul Karim Kachi, and Mohammed Shah Nowaz, among others. The event was chaired by the party's central executive committee member Sohrab Hossain and moderated by city unit general secretary Nurul Afser Majumder Sawpon.
