Over 3,385 Tonnes of VGF Rice Allocated for Gaibandha’s Distressed

Gaibandha: The government has allocated 3,385 metric tonnes of rice for the distressed and ultra-poor residents of Gaibandha district under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme in anticipation of Eid-ul-Fitr.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the rice allocation aims to support 338,560 VGF cardholders across all seven upazilas, including four pourashavas in the district, ensuring distribution is completed before Eid-ul-Fitr. Specifically, Fulchhari Upazila receives 26,212 cards, Sundarganj Upazila 71,256 cards, Shaghata Upazila 40,475 cards, Gobindaganj Upazila 66,529 cards, Sadullapur Upazila 41,116 cards, Sadar Upazila 57,946 cards, and Palashbari Upazila 34,526 cards.



Additionally, Gaibandha Pourashava and Gobindaganj Pourashava each have 4,621 cards, Sundarganj Pourashava has 3,081 cards, and Palashbari Upazila has 1,540 cards allocated. Each beneficiary is set to receive 10 kilograms of rice to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr without facing a food crisis, explained assistant commissioner and acting district relief and rehabilitation officer Md Juwel Miah.



Deputy Commissioner Choudhury Muazzam Ahmed stated that instructions have been provided to Upazila Nirbahi officers (UNOs) and Project Implementation Officers (PIOs) to ensure smooth and prompt distribution of rice to recipients. Sadar UNO Mahmud Al-Hasan and PIO Md Reazul Islam confirmed that necessary measures are in place to distribute the rice before the Eid festival, minimizing potential criticism.



Sundarganj PIO Mashiar Rahman noted that the distribution process in the upazila is progressing efficiently, with union tag officers and local elite overseeing the operation.
