Deer Poacher Arrested, 205 Kgs of Venison Seized in Sundarbans

Sundarbans: A joint team comprising coast guard and police personnel conducted separate drives and arrested a deer poacher, seizing 205 kgs of venison from the Sundarbans in the early hours of today.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, members of the Koyra, Koikhali, and Harbaria coast guard camps under the Mongla west zone, along with Koyra thana police, carried out operations at South Khashitana, a local market adjacent to the Sundarbans, and Joymonirgol area under Mongla upazila. These operations were initiated following a tip-off.



The law enforcement agencies apprehended Md Babu Alam, 27, a deer poacher from Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira. They confiscated 205 kgs of venison, two deer heads, eight legs, and two skins from his possession, as stated by Lieutenant Commander Tarek Ahmed, Operation Officer of the West Zone Coast Guard.



The seized venison and other deer body parts were handed over to the respective authorities of the Forest Department, while the poacher was handed over to the river police, Lieutenant Commander Tarek Ahmed added.
