Rangpur: Ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival, the Highway Police in the Rangpur region has devised a comprehensive security plan to ensure systematic and safe highway conditions through effective traffic management.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Tariqul Islam is spearheading the initiative to alleviate traffic congestion and guarantee a smooth and safe journey for home-bound passengers during the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. The comprehensive plan involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including line managers of different bus companies, counter masters of inter-district and long-distance bus services, Truck Owners Associations, Motor Vehicle Owners Associations, student movement representatives, and journalists.
SP Mohammad Tariqul Islam, in a conversation with BSS, highlighted the intensification of traffic management and security measures around the Gobindaganj point, a key entryway to the Rangpur division. To support these efforts, an additional 50 police personnel are being stationed in the Gobindaganj and Palashbari areas along the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Gaibandha district.
Further, extra patrols have been mobilized in strategic locations such as Gobindaganj, Palashbari, Bara Dorga, Shothibari, and Taraganj. Special measures have also been implemented by Highway police stations on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Gaibandha and Rangpur to facilitate this initiative.
The Highway Police SP has also engaged with bus company counter masters in Gobindaganj and coordinated with the Roads and Highways Department to address road repairs and alleviate traffic congestion in the Maya Moni Mour area. To enhance road safety, SP Islam has urged the regulation of vehicle speeds and the use of two drivers for long-distance travel.
In an effort to prevent robberies and other crimes on the highways, SP Islam has advised against picking up passengers at random locations, emphasized reporting suspicious individuals, and recommended maintaining video footage of passengers. Enhanced video recording in buses and strengthened check post activities are being implemented to further curb criminal activities on the highways.
