Dhaka: The arrears of 16,142 workers from seven out of fourteen closed garment factories of the Beximco Industrial Park Ltd have been cleared through joint efforts by the ministries of labour and employment and finance.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, an official handout announced that the dues were resolved with the support of the relevant ministries. The handout also mentioned that the workers of the remaining factories would receive their payments in phases.
On March 6, the government issued a cheque amounting to Taka 525.46 crore to cover all outstanding payments for laid-off workers and staff from the 14 closed factories of Beximco Industrial Park Ltd. The cheque was handed over by AHM Shafiquzzaman, Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, to Beximco Limited Managing Director Osman Kaiser Chowdhury.
