Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has conducted a significant security operation over the past 24 hours, deploying 667 patrol teams and 71 checkpoints, resulting in the arrest of 235 individuals, including 27 dacoits. This operation is part of the DMP's ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and law and order in the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DMP's Crime Command and Control Center managed the operation, which involved 667 patrol teams working in two shifts across the city's 50 police stations from 12:01 am to 11:59 pm on Sunday. Of these teams, 340 were active at night, while 327 operated during the day.
The patrol units were composed of 479 mobile patrol teams, 73 foot patrol teams, and 115 motorcycle patrol teams. Additionally, 71 police checkpoints were strategically placed throughout the metropolitan area to bolster security measures.
Supporting the DMP were 14 Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) patrol teams operating in two shifts, 12 Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) patrol teams in three shifts, and 10 RAB patrol teams focusing on crime-prone areas. Furthermore, 20 checkpoints were maintained by the APBn, a specialized police unit.
During the 24-hour period, 83 combing operations led to the arrest of various criminals, including 27 robbers, 18 active muggers, four extortionists, nine thieves, 20 individuals wanted for previous offenses, and 22 identified drug dealers.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of a foreign revolver, four bullets, various weapons such as machetes and knives, gold jewelry, a private car, a motorcycle, nine mobile phones, and cash amounting to Taka 2,44,500. Confiscated drugs included 25 bottles of foreign liquor, 3.450 kg of ganja, 484 pieces of Yaba, and 5 grams of heroin.
In the wake of these operations, 65 cases have been registered at different DMP police stations.
