Jhenaidah: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in separate drives, arrested an Indian youth and recovered contraband phensedyl and liquor from different border areas in Jhenaidah district yesterday. The arrested individual has been identified as Ahad Ali, 17, son of the late Bashfitr, hailing from Gaziabad railway station village under Gaziabad Police Station in New Delhi.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a team from the 58 BGB battalion of Matila Border Out Post (BOP) conducted the operations along the Kodla river bank on Saturday noon, leading to the arrest of Ahad Ali at the Maheshpur border. The operation was led by Matila BOP Commander M Abdus Sattar.
In addition to the arrest, BGB teams from Natunpara and Gayespur BOP successfully recovered 114 bottles of Indian liquor and 59 bottles of phensedyl during separate drives in the vicinity. The seized contraband is currently stored at BGB's facility.
Police have announced that Ahad Ali will be presented before the court following the filing of a case against him for allegedly entering Bangladesh illegally via the Maheshpur border. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Maheshpur Police Station, Fayez Uddin Mridha, confirmed the legal proceedings against the Indian citizen.
