Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel ban on former Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, his wife Shahin Akter, and daughters Anika Fariha Zaman and Maisa Samiha Zaman over graft allegations. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, accepting a plea filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director Mozammil Hossain.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC in its plea stated that the anti-graft body is probing allegations against Liton and eight former lawmakers from Rajshahi for amassing illegal wealth amounting to Taka 6,000 crore. During the investigation, the ACC found evidence of wealth beyond known sources of income against Liton and his family members.
The commission indicated that the former mayor and his family members are attempting to transfer their movable and immovable properties. It argued that the travel ban should be imposed to prevent them from leaving the country.
