Dhaka: Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today emphasized the urgent need to eliminate all forms of discrimination in the pursuit of true democracy and unity within the country. Rizwana underscored the importance of self-restraint, moving away from consumerist lifestyles, and engaging in meaningful work with an open mind as vital components in nation-building. She maintained that acknowledging one's own mistakes rather than finding faults in others is crucial for fostering unity.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana shared these insights as the chief guest at a discussion titled "Sri Sarada Devi and Universal Unity," organized by Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Dhaka. The event marked the 190th birth anniversary of Sri Ramakrishna and the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda's visit to Bangladesh. During her address, Rizwana stressed the need for collective efforts to tackle environmental crises, highlighting the significance of raising awareness to prevent environmental pollution and combat climate change.
Rizwana also noted that the core teachings of all religions and philosophies focus on human welfare, urging a forward movement with this understanding. She described Sri Sarada Devi as a symbol of humanity who imparted the invaluable lesson of universal love beyond religion and caste.
The event was presided over by Swami Purnatmananda, Head and Secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Special guests included Dr. Jamila A. Chowdhury, Professor of Law at the University of Dhaka, and Sonam Saha, Assistant Professor of Development Studies. Swami Dhyanananda of Ramakrishna Mission also addressed the gathering. The speakers emphasized the importance of universal unity as taught by Sri Sarada Devi and called for collective efforts to promote environmental and humanitarian welfare.
The event concluded with Rizwana distributing prizes among winners of various competitions.
