Chattogram: Retail price of per liter non-bottled open soybean oil has been fixed at Taka 160 per liter for the greater Chattogram market. The decision was taken at a meeting of the District Administration Market Monitoring Special Task Force Committee at the local Circuit House.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, importers and millers will sell per liter non-bottled soybean oil at Taka 153, while wholesalers and dealers will sell to retailers at Taka 155. Consumers will pay Taka 160 for per liter bottled soybean. The price will remain in effect until April 10, 2025, as decided in the meeting.
The decision aims to keep the prices of edible oil and daily essentials at a tolerable level in the market during the holy Ramadan, as stated by the meeting source. City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain and Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam urged compliance with the decision and warned of stern action otherwise.
Senior officials of major business groups like T.K and City Group, leading wholesalers from Khatunganj, and representatives of consumer organizations attended the meeting. The City Mayor and the Deputy Commissioner had visited Khatunganj, the country's largest commodity wholesale market, to assess the stock and supply situation following a sudden price spike of edible oil and the disappearance of bottled edible oil from the market.
The rate was fixed as importers, millers, and wholesalers have agreed and consented to comply with the rate. The decision will come into effect from today and will remain until April 10. Any violation of this pricing will lead to legal action by the special task force committee of the district administration and CCC, as stated by the CCC Mayor.
