Dhaka: Bangladesh Police Service Association (BPSA) has strongly condemned recent incidents of assault on uniformed police personnel and expressed its commitment to continue discharging duties amid challenges to maintain law and order. 'Recently, some unwarranted, unexpected, and rude incidents have occurred with uniformed police personnel at Kawran Bazar in Dhaka, Patenga in Chittagong, and other places. Those matters came to the notice of BPSA, and the police force is shocked, extremely worried, and disappointed with those incidents,' said a statement of the BPSA.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the statement, signed by BPSA President Additional IGP, CID Md Matiur Rahman Sheikh, and General Secretary Police Super, Dhaka Md Anisuzzaman, emphasized that the police force is working relentlessly with utmost professionalism to maintain law and order in the country and protect the life and property of the people.
Bangladesh Police is described as a service-oriented force with a history of valor in the Liberation War and a tradition of working in solidarity with the populace during democratic movements and mass struggles. The role of the police has been questioned due to the actions of a few disorderly, power-hungry, dishonest, and unprofessional officers during the student uprising of July-August 2024.
The statement further expressed that presently, every police member is working enthusiastically to build a new Bangladesh, avoiding the unprofessionalism and inhumane activities of 2024. Despite attempts by some disorderly and peace-disturbing individuals to obstruct police duties, causing unrest, frustration, and public order issues, the police force remains committed to handling these incidents with professionalism and efficiency.
The BPSA reiterated the police force's determination to implement the principles and goals of the interim government, aiming to build a new Bangladesh, achieved through the sacrifices of many martyrs, in a renewed manner.
