Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today alleged that the brutal massacre of army officers in the capital’s Pilkhana was orchestrated under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. Speaking to journalists after paying tributes to the martyrs of the Pilkhana massacre by placing wreaths at their graves at Baanani military graveyard, Fakhrul marked the occasion of Jatiya Shaheed Sena Dibash with these statements.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BNP Secretary General described the massacre as an unfortunate event for the nation, attributing its orchestration to the Awami League, led by Hasina. He highlighted that the massacre spanned two days, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation.
Recalling the horrific events of the Pilkhana massacre, Mirza Fakhrul claimed that enemies of Bangladesh, as well as the army, plotted and killed 57 army officers under the guise of a BDR coup. He suggested that the intent of these enemies was to weaken the country’s security system by undermining the morale of the army.
Fakhrul expressed gratitude to the current interim government for declaring the day as ‘Shaheed Sena Dibash’. He advocated for a complete, proper, and impartial investigation to reveal the truth about the Pilkhana massacre and bring those responsible to justice.
The BNP senior leader called upon everyone to remember and honor the sacrifices of the martyred army members. Referring to the recent mass uprising in July-August, he noted that the nation had united after many years, seeing a significant political change. Fakhrul commended the students and the people for creating an opportunity to build a new Bangladesh by overthrowing oppressive forces.
BNP Standing Committee Member Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and several party leaders were also present during the tribute at the graveyard.
