Manpura: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter announced that the government plans to increase rice allocation to 40 kg for registered fishermen during the fishing ban period.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Farida Akhter shared this update while meeting with members of the Adarsha Matshyajibi organizations in Dakshin Chargoalia village of Manpura upazila. The plan will see an increase from the previous allocation of 25 kg to 40 kg of rice for each registered fisherman's family during the nationwide fishing ban.
Akhter stated that the distribution of the allocated rice would commence at the beginning of the fishing restriction period. Additionally, the government is in the process of updating the fishermen's registration list to ensure that only genuine fishermen are included.
The adviser also mentioned that in the past, most of the enlisted fishermen did not receive all the government-provided facilities. However, efforts are being made to ensure that this time, real fishermen will benefit from these facilities.
The fishing ban in Bangladesh's five fish sanctuaries will be enforced starting March 1. The meeting was attended by Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation's Additional Secretary Suraiya Akhter Jahan, Manpura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nikhil Bornic, and other upazila and district administrative officials.
