Dhaka: Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed today stated that the government is closely monitoring the market situation to prevent price hikes of essential commodities ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. "The government is importing and stockpiling essential items such as rice and pulses alongside maintaining strict vigilance over the market to prevent any price hike by traders," the adviser told journalists this evening after attending the 65th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) at Savar, on the outskirts of the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Salehuddin emphasized that the government is fully aware of the overall situation and is taking necessary measures to ensure price stability during Ramadan. He assured that measures are in place to counter any unwarranted price increases by traders, thereby safeguarding the interests of consumers during this critical period.
Regarding energy supply, Dr. Salehuddin noted that the possibility of load shedding during Ramadan is minimal due to sufficient gas and energy resources. This assurance comes as a relief to many, as uninterrupted energy supply is crucial during the month of fasting.
The meeting was also attended by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid and Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman, among others, who discussed various measures to support the government's aim of maintaining market stability.
