Dhaka: Four teams, comprising two girls' teams and two boys' teams, have advanced to the national round finals of the Primary School Gold Cup Football tournament. These teams emerged victorious in their respective semifinal matches held at the National Bangla High School ground in Mirpur-2, Dhaka.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the girls' section witnessed Jorgacha Government Primary School from Santhia upazila in Pabna District overcoming Doharo Government Primary School from Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah district with a score of 2-1. In another intense semifinal match, Bancharampur Model Government Primary School from Brahmanbaria district defeated Tepriganj Government Primary School from Panchagarh district, also by 2-1.
In the boys' category, Ichaghari Government Primary School of Sunamganj Sadar secured their place in the finals by beating Doara Antabunia Government Primary School of Koira upazila in Khulna district with a scoreline of 2-0. The second semifinal saw Koyarbil Government Primary School from Kutubdia upazila in Cox's Bazar district triumph over Matikata Government Primary School from Bhunchapur upazila in Tangail district. The match ended in a 1-1 draw in regular time, but Koyarbil clinched victory 4-2 in a tiebreaker.
The tournament's third-place match is scheduled for tomorrow, with the finals set to take place on February 27. Boys' and girls' teams from 65,354 government primary schools nationwide participated in the competition, showcasing their talent and determination.
