Rangpur: Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali has articulated that fine arts serve as an expression of deep human feelings, reflecting thought, culture, and time. His remarks came during the inaugural function of a three-day divisional fine arts exhibition at Shilpakala Academy cafeteria, where he served as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the exhibition is organized to commemorate ‘Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day 2025.’ It provides a unique platform for both new and experienced artists to express their creative ideas. The exhibition, which began on February 21, is organized by North Canvas Bangladesh in collaboration with the Rangpur District Shilpakala Academy. It is dedicated to all martyrs from the 1952-2024 periods, featuring paintings of the July Revolution.
The event was moderated by Rangpur Divisional Fine Arts Exhibition Organizing Committee Convener Ahsan Ahmed. The exhibition’s initiator, renowned artist Professor Alauddin Ahmed, emphasized Rangpur’s rich heritage in art, literature, and culture. He highlighted that many artists from Rangpur have gained international recognition, contributing to the vibrant arts scene in the district.
Ahsan Ahmed detailed that the exhibition features a variety of artworks, including watercolor and acrylic paintings, drawings and sketches, miniature sculptures, terracotta, and calligraphy. A total of 108 paintings by 52 artists selected by Professor Alauddin Ahmed are on display. The artworks depict themes such as oppression by fascist regimes and the issue of money laundering under the guise of development, alongside visions of Bangladesh’s natural potential and the people’s aspirations.
The event was attended by Rangpur Divisional Fine Arts Exhibition Organizing Committee members, including District Cultural Officer KM Arifuzzaman, Advisor Chowdhury Mahmudunnabi Dollar, Joint Convener Mizanur Rahman Misu, Member-secretary Jahangir Kabir, Joint Member-secretary Mahmudunnabi Babul, and Palash Kanti Nag, among others. Notable artists from various regions, including Habib Ullah Bahar, Soumen Chowdhury, Farhadul Alam Sabuj, MD Rajan, Dharma Narayan Roy, Ziaul Haque, and MA Ahad Palash, are participating in the exhibition, showcasing the diverse talent across Bangladesh.
